Job Summary:

The successful applicants will join a leading statistics department to engage in research, teaching, and graduate student training; and will work to proactively support the expansion of diversity among all components of the Department and ensure an inclusive, fair and equitable environment that fosters engagement.


The incumbent will teach three semester-length statistics courses per year; train graduate students; conduct research; publish results in academic journals in statistics, data science, and closely related fields and present them at national and international meetings; and participate in professional and university service and outreach.

Our field and our department are growing rapidly, fueling our excitement for the future of our discipline, and creating an eager desire among our faculty to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds and interests. The Department has 28 regular faculty members, over 100 PhD students, roughly 150 MS students, and over 1200 undergraduate majors in statistics and data science. Some faculty members have joint appointments in other departments. The Department is well known for its strong interplay between statistical theory, methodology, and practice. The University of Wisconsin-Madison ranks among the top universities in the country in research expenditures and provides excellent support for faculty seeking external funding. Internal research support is available from funds provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Madison is a pleasant medium-sized city (about 250,000 population) located in the lake region of southern Wisconsin. It is the state capital with a large base for educational research and government activities as well as university-industry interaction. The university and community offer outstanding intellectual, cultural and recreational activities. Madison's quality of life always ranks very high among cities of comparable size as a place to work and live.
