Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Law School seeks a conscientious, diligent, amiable and detail-oriented candidate to join our web design team. This position works with stakeholders within the Law School community to design, create and maintain web content for the Law School, including websites, web applications, and email templates. This position is in the External Affairs (EA) Department, which is a highly motivated and supportive team that oversees web content, communications, events, continuing education and alumni relations.

This position will report to the Associate Director of Communications and receive guidance from the Senior Web Designer. This position works collaboratively with many departments in the Law School: within EA to support projects and events; with the IT department to determine consistent and appropriate technical solutions; and with all other Law School departments to help them maintain and optimize their web content.

Responsibilities: Develops and designs the user interface and overall user experience for websites and applications. May train staff and direct the work of others. Contributes to digital media strategic initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert regarding website design and layout.
  • 25% Develops and designs the overall navigation flow, layout of specific pages, and creation of individual graphic elements; ensures that all design elements, templates, and finished solutions work within a variety of browser types and screen settings along with the constraints set by development and design
  • 25% Provides design maintenance of websites and other electronic publications and applications
  • 25% Develops and implements strategic digital media initiatives, priorities, objectives, and best practices in collaboration with leadership and other functional work units
  • 5% Implements graphical and style standards for web sites
  • 20% Serves as a subject matter expert and unit liaison to other departments to design graphics and layouts

Associate's Degree


Our ideal candidate is a quick learner with an eye for clean, elegant design and a strong foundation in modern web practices and user-centered design principles. It is very important for this candidate to be able to work smoothly and effectively with stakeholders who have little to no web experience. Experience with HTML and CSS is required. Experience with Bootstrap and WordPress is highly desired. Experience with or knowledge of user experience, web accessibility and information architecture is also highly desired.

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
