The Division of Nephrology has an opening for a physician scientist. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research on multi-disciplinary projects, establish a research program in the area of health care disparities and/or social determinants of health in persons with kidney disease and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.

Responsibilities: |
Academic responsibilities (70-75%) include conducting clinical research, preferably focusing on health care disparities and/or social determinants of health in persons with kidney disease.
Clinical responsibilities (25-30%) include coverage of Nephrology Division hospital services and at least one half-day clinic per week at UW Health approved locations.
The incumbent will participate in the Department of Medicine, Nephrology Division continuing professional education and fellowship program activities including teaching fellows and graduate students.
Appointment at the associate professor rank may include leadership participation at the Division and/or department level.
The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank. Candidates must meet the criteria for rank and track as per UW tenure guidelines.

Education: |
Required Terminal Degree MD or equivalent
|
Qualifications: |
Experience in clinical research, preferably focusing on health care disparities and/or social determinants of health in persons with kidney disease, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, evidence of excellence in teaching, and current or high potential to obtain extramural funding.

Having two position vacancy listings allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider candidates with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure-track faculty credentials for this position.
This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial Caregiver Check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and then every four years.
The department will not be able to support a request for a J-1 waiver.
