Job Summary:

The Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UW SMPH) is recruiting an exceptional board-certified or board-eligible otolaryngologist with fellowship training in pediatric otolaryngology to serve as the section chief of complex pediatric otolaryngology-head & neck surgery. We are looking for candidates with a track record of clinical excellence, academic contributions, program building, and mentorship as demonstrated through training and/or practice experience.

This position involves joining a burgeoning section of pediatric otolaryngologists with tremendous opportunities for growth clinically and in all arms of the academic mission.

Clinical resources and opportunities include:
- The primary ambulatory and hospital practice site is American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH) in Madison, Wisconsin as part of UW Health Kids. AFCH is a world-class children's healthcare center with a full spectrum of medical and surgical resources including neonatal and pediatric intensive care, as well as advanced trauma care, perinatal care, fetal diagnosis and treatment, and a children's cancer center.
- The section of pediatric otolaryngology practices a full breadth of complex pediatric otolaryngology, including advanced open and endoscopic airway surgery, cochlear implantation, and ex utero intrapartum treatment (EXIT) procedures
- Pediatric Otolaryngology faculty participate in UW Health Kids supported multi-disciplinary teams including the Craniofacial Abnormalities Clinic (CFAC), Pediatric Aerodigestive Clinics Team (PACT), Pediatric Tracheostomy Clinic, and Birthmarks and Vascular Anomalies Clinic.
- Dedicated pediatric audiologists and speech-language-voice pathologists support and advance the shared academic mission of excellence in patient care, education and research.
- Significant potential and planning for continued program growth is anticipated and desired.

The Division of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery at UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH)
The Division of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery has 30 faculty members who provide clinical expertise in head & neck oncologic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric otolaryngology, otology-neurotology-lateral skull base surgery, comprehensive otolaryngology, laryngology, rhinology-skull base surgery, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery across the UW Health hospital system and William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. The Division provides full-spectrum otolaryngology care for adults and children at six clinical practice sites in the Madison area and six outreach sites across Wisconsin and Illinois.

Education within the division includes a commitment to medical student education, an ACGME accredited residency program of 15 residents, and fellowships in Head & Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery and Laryngology.

The Division currently has 29 active extramural grants with a total budget of over $25 million, as well as collaborations with related programs across the University of Wisconsin campus such as the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), the Waisman Center, and through the Head & Neck Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) funding.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Activity: We seek a pediatric otolaryngologist with interest, skill, and enthusiasm in
leading the Section of Pediatric Otolaryngology-HNS. The successful applicant will demonstrate skills in leadership, program building, and mentorship.

The applicant should have command of the core knowledge and understanding of medical sciences relevant to these regions and advanced diagnostic and medical and surgical management skills for pediatric patients with complex otolaryngologic disorders.

The applicant is expected to work collaboratively and inclusively within and across related fields including pediatric surgery, pediatric transplant, pediatric pulmonology and with colleagues within the division and department. Clinical out-patient practices are supported by two ambulatory Advance Practice Providers. Occasional otolaryngology on-call coverage and regional outreach clinical commitments are shared amongst all faculty.

Research program: The successfully recruited surgeon on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) Track will also participate in and is expected to develop or continue robust original and high-quality lines of research inquiry. The applicant will conduct research activities that may draw on numerous available collaborators. Deep research infrastructure support, including patient reported outcomes research, includes access to research cores in Clinical Trials Research, Qualitative Research, Statistical Analysis and Research Programming, and Histology as well as broad support of grant writing and the application process, grant compliance and grant management.

Adjustments to this dedicated percentage of time can be made based on the funding needs and successful applicant's line of scientific inquiry.

Education: Faculty in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery share a commitment to education at levels of medical student, resident training, and continuing medical education. Teaching clinical and sub-intern UWSMPH medical students and resident physicians in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery are included in daily clinical activities. An active commitment to training the next generation of otolaryngologist-head & neck surgeons includes a commitment to ACGME-accredited residency training in otolaryngology-head & neck surgery.

Service and Leadership: The successful applicant will demonstrate skills in leadership, program building, mentorship, and clinical excellence to facilitate their role as Pediatric Otolaryngology Section Chief. The successful applicant will be an active participant in regional and national professional associations. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience leading a research, education, or clinical team.

Academic responsibilities will include teaching medical students, and residents. Academic duties and responsibilities beyond baseline faculty expectations will depend on individual interests and expertise. Qualifications:

Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin Medical License and must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges within the UW Health network.

Specialization must include eligibility or certification in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) or by the American Osteopathic Boards of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (AOBOOHNS); and have completed a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship training program or equivalent.
