Job Summary: |
The Actionable Assessment project seeks a science education outreach specialist to join a team investigating how to make middle school science assessment more meaningful for students. The outreach specialist will serve a key role on the project, developing educational materials for the project, setting up and coordinating research activities with school districts and teachers, facilitating training for teachers and district staff, and supporting implementation of an innovative middle school science assessment system in classrooms. This is a four-year grant-funded position.
The Teaming Up for Equity in Science: Supporting NGSS Three-dimensional Learning and Achievement through Actionable Assessment project will examine the use of the ONPAR NGSS-based assessment system to leverage data to inform teaching and learning and conduct a randomized controlled trial to assess its effectiveness. The project will refine and validate ONPAR materials to meet the needs of users, increase teacher efficacy for NGSS assessment and data-driven instruction through professional development, improve outcomes for high-need middle school science learners, particularly ELs and students who struggle with reading, and build capacity for sustaining and expanding the use of the ONPAR assessment system. Responsibilities: |
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
- 10% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
- 15% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
- 25% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
- 20% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
- 15% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
- 5% Develops and evaluates training materials and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
- 10% Follows research procedures and supports data collection and analysis

Education: |
Required Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in education or related field is preferred.

Qualifications: |
Experience working in K-12 science education in schools and school districts, experience designing and leading professional development, experience supporting research activities, familiarity with research protocols and procedures, excellent communication skills and organizational skills.

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
