WRITING CENTER DIRECTOR summary: The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a director for its Writing Center. This is a full-time, twelve-month permanent academic staff position at the level of teaching professor. The Writing Center Director directs and manages all aspects of the UW-Madison Writing Center, which serves 6,000-7,000 students, faculty, and staff each year. Responsibilities include directing all one-to-one instruction at the Main Center, eight campus satellite locations, and seven community locations through in-person appointments, virtual meetings, and online written feedback as well as coordinating all group writing instruction, including Writing Center workshops, weekly undergraduate and graduate writing groups, dissertation writing camps, and cross-campus outreach in courses across the disciplines. The Director hires, trains, supervises, and mentors five full-time Writing Center career staff members and 45-50 graduate TAs, including 5 TAs in leadership positions (Writing Center Assistant Director, Online Writing Center Coordinator, Multicultural and Social Justice Initiatives Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator, and Madison Writing Assistance Assistant Director).

WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM/WRITING FELLOWS DIRECTOR summary: The Director of WAC and Writing Fellows will develop, sustain, and expand WAC initiatives across campus and build strong campus partnerships for WAC including with CTLM, the Teaching Academy, the DELTA program, the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning, the Associate Dean of Academic Planning/Director of General Education, the Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning in L&S, the teaching innovation leader in the School of Business, Student Learning Assessment, and more. The director will serve on the campus General Education committee, will oversee the training of teaching assistants in Communications-B courses, and will develop and present a 4-week module on teaching writing for two MTLE cohorts each semester. In addition, the WAC/WF director will be an active member of the campus High Impact Practices (HIPs) Collaborative. The director will also oversee the publication of the 300-page WAC Sourcebook and twice-yearly WAC Newsletter. As the director of Writing Fellows, this position includes teaching one 3-credit honors seminar each fall (as well as mentoring an experienced TA teaching a second section of the course); overseeing a 1-credit writing workshop each spring, recruiting and selecting 25-30 new Writing Fellows each year; administering the Writing Fellows program (50 Writing Fellows); recruiting and orienting faculty to work with Fellows; mentoring 4 graduate TA assistant directors of WAC and Writing Fellows. The director will oversee and manage all websites and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) accounts for both programs. In addition, the director will oversee the budget for both programs and work with the CRTW director to attract gifts for the programs.
